CP-TT online lecture (3) – March 2024

The CP-TT has been re-organised to better link coupled (ocean) modelling, predictions, and operational implementation.

This lecture series started in June 2022.

Presentation Presenter Affiliation
The many benefits (and a few drawbacks) of inserting tides into general circulation models Brian Arbic Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Michigan

The presentation will discuss 20+ years of work, in collaboration with several federal agencies, on insertion of tides into high-resolution ocean general circulation models. This results in global internal gravity wave models.
Brian will describe the multiple applications of global internal tide and gravity wave models, to satellite altimetry, ocean acoustics, assessments of tidal contributions to flooding risk, predictions of ocean mixing, and more, and will also discuss some drawbacks of adding tidal forcing to OGCMs.
