Strategy
Advancing our capacity to predict the ocean
To operate in the ocean and make use of its resources in a sustainable way, describing and predicting the ocean is essential.
This requires first and foremost knowledge of its status and functioning. Understanding the ocean, accurately, describing and forecasting it and distributing that knowledge effectively provides societal benefit by supporting sustainable development, enhanced resilience and blue economy growth. Examples of this are reducing cross ocean ship transit times, increase safety and efficiency of marine economic activity, better predict coastal impact of severe marine weather events or provide insight into climate change impacts.
Vision & mission
OceanPredict is driving a vigorous and strong international coordination mechanism to build the ocean prediction capacity of the future, supporting the establishment of a seamless ocean information value-chain, from observations to end users, for economic and societal benefit.
Strategic objectives
Our objectives are focused on delivering our vision of building the ocean prediction capacity of the future and contributing to a seamless ocean information value-chain, from observations to end users, for economic and societal benefit.
UN Decade of Ocean Science
In the coming decade, Ocean Predict will advance ocean prediction science and increase operational capacity in an ever-increasing international operational oceanography context.
Societal benefits
Ultimately, the reason for investing in ocean science and operational ocean products and services is to enable marine decision making to provide increased human safety, environmental sustainability and an efficient blue economy.
