About
A science network to accelerate, strengthen and increase the impact of ocean prediction
OceanPredict is a science programme for the coordination and improvement of global and regional ocean analysis and forecasting systems. It provides a platform for communication and knowledge exchange run by scientists and experts in operational oceanography from around the world to accelerate, strengthen and increase the impact of ocean prediction.
History & motivation
Ocean prediction is an essential component in the provision of routine oceanographic information for decision making purposes (defined as operational oceanography). GODAE, GODAE OceanView and now OceanPredict deliver the support and expertise for a coordination and leadership in consolidating and improving global and regional ocean analysis and forecasting systems.
Strategy
Our oceans are under threat from many different stressors, mostly man-induced, and we need to protect and preserve it for future generations. To operate in the ocean and make use of its resources in a sustainable and efficient manner, describing and predicting the ocean is essential.
Partners
OceanPredict provides a forum for leaders of global and regional ocean prediction systems, ocean observing systems and experts in ocean science to network and collaborate to advance operational oceanography.
Organisation
OceanPredict is governed by the OceanPredict Advisory & Sponsor Board (OPAS) and the OceanPredict Executive Committee (OPEC). Both these bodies are supported by the OceanPredict programme office (OPPO).
