Call for papers – COSS-TT Topical Collection

Call for submissions of Topical Collection manuscripts for publication in Ocean Dynamics

COSS-TT — the Coastal Ocean and Shelf Seas Task Team — is an international scientific team within the OceanPredict program. Its mission is to advance the science of coastal ocean prediction, bridging research and operational forecasting, and fostering international coordination and community building among scientists, forecasters, and stakeholders working on coastal and shelf sea systems. Collaboration is supported through regular in-person meetings, online seminars, and topical collections of scientific papers that promote knowledge exchange and joint progress.

The most recent COSS-TT science and coordination meeting took place at Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (IFREMER) in Plouzané (near Brest), France, 17-20 June 2025. Scientific discussions were organized around the following 7 themes:

  1. The observing infrastructure in the coastal seas, its integration with ocean model, prediction and forecast systems
  2. Ocean modelling at the regional and shelf sea spatial scales and seamless integration
    with larger-scale estimates
  3. The land-ocean continuum: integration of models for coastal ocean and estuaries/deltas/
wetlands, including effects on urban built environments/coastal cities
  4. Coastal projections and scenarios, coastal vulnerability, wave and storm surge impacts in the coastal zone
  5. AI/ML applications in the coastal ocean
  6. User applications and decision tools in the coastal ocean (including Digital Twins)
  7. The role of COSS-TT in the United Nations Ocean Decade and beyond.

As planned, the new topical collection of scientific papers at the Ocean Dynamics journal will be organized around these same themes, reflecting the key scientific priorities and discussions of the 2025 COSS-TT meeting.
