Jae-Il Kwon
Principal Research Scientist at the Marine Disaster Research Center, Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST)
Jae-Il Kwon is a Principal Research Scientist at the Marine Disaster Research Center, Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST), and has also served as a Professor at the University of Science & Technology (UST) since 2021. His early research focused on estuarine dynamics, during which he developed a strong foundation in numerical modeling. Building on this expertise, he became a key contributor to the Korea Operational Oceanographic System (KOOS) project, which marked the beginning of his dedicated pursuit of operational oceanography. Since then, his research has been centered on advancing ocean monitoring, forecasting, and prediction systems for both scientific and societal applications. He is currently leading research aimed at reducing the impacts of coastal disasters, with a particular focus on the societal applications of operational oceanography at the coastal scale.
