Argo use by OceanPredict systems

Questionnaire on the use of Argo data in operational ocean forecasting systems within the OceanPredict community

We have been invited by Argo to provide them with information on the use of Argo data in the OP operational systems, from core Argo (up to 2000 m sampling), to BGC and Deep Argo.

Please provide answers to the questions below by  TBC.

OceanPredict use of Argo data

2. Do you use Argo data for operational/real-time ocean forecasting or seasonal prediction?

3. What Argo data do you use for operational/real-time applications?

6. Some Deep Argo floats are designed to sample on descent – so data will be disseminated 9-10 days after sampling. Will these data be used in your operational application?

Those Deep Argo floats that are designed to sample on descent can also sample on ascent – but data may be lower quality, and coarser-resolution. This mission will also shorten the life of the float, but can be done if needed.

7. What maximum depth is required for near-real time Deep Argo profiling, if they sample on ascent and disseminate data within 1 day of sampling?

8. What vertical resolution is needed for Argo data at 0-500 m depths?

9. What vertical resolution is needed for Argo data at 500-1000 m depths?

10. What vertical resolution is needed for Argo data at 1000-2000 m depths?

12. Do you use Argo data for reanalyses?

13. What Argo data do you use for reanalyses?

  Many thanks for your support!
